Over 30 years of adventure, friendship, and community in Croydon North. A proud part of Scouts Victoria.
1st Croydon Hills Scout Group has been part of this community since the early 1990s. What started as a small group of passionate volunteers and young adventurers has grown into a thriving 118-member Scout Group serving Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs.
We're based at Hughes Park Scout Hall on the Maroondah Highway โ a well-equipped facility that's home to our Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Chill Venturers, and Manderson Rovers.
A timeline of 1st Croydon Hills Scout Group โ from formation to the present day.
1st Croydon Hills started with Cubs in February โ Emma Hoeboer and Justin Touzeau were our very first Cubs. From just 2 Cubs and 4 leaders, numbers grew quickly to around 27, meeting at Croydon Hills Primary School hall.
The group moved to Yurrunga Community Centre, and in 1996 the Scout Troop started โ expanding the adventure to older youth members.
The Joey Mob began under Margaret Spano. In 2004, rising rent prompted a move to the old 6th Croydon Scout Hall at Hughes Park โ the home we still meet in today.
The Chill Venturer Unit started with Donna Anderson as leader. The unit has since celebrated three Queen's Scout Awards.
The Garramool Joey Mob was re-started by Jennie Leggett, giving our youngest members (ages 5โ8) their own section once again.
The Manderson Rover Crew began in February with an expression-of-interest gathering at Lillydale Lake, and was accepted by the Region Rover Council that June โ completing all five sections.
Now home to 118 active youth members across all five sections โ Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Chill Venturers and Manderson Rovers โ 1st Croydon Hills continues its 30-year tradition of adventure in Croydon North.
All volunteer leaders โ trained, dedicated, and passionate about youth development.
